Restrictions on registering .bz domains
- .bz domains can have a maximum of 63 characters and a minimum of 2.
- Accepted characters for registration are: a–z, 0–9 and hyphen “-”. The hyphen cannot be placed at the beginning or end of the name.
- They can be registered for up to a maximum of 10 years.
Restrictions on renewing .bz domains
- A .bz domain has a renewal period of 1 to 10 years.
- A .bz domain can only be renewed starting 2 months before its expiration.
Restrictions on transferring .bz domains
- .bz domains cannot be transferred if expired.
- .bz domains cannot be transferred if they are in clientTransferProhibited status.
- To initiate a transfer, the AUTH CODE is required.
Like all domains with an expiration date, .bz domains follow a lifecycle with several phases. This lifecycle is established by ICANN, the entity responsible for domain regulations. The following diagram shows the lifecycle of a .bz domain and its states.
- Available domain: the domain has not yet been registered and is available. Once a registration request is submitted, it will be assigned to the first requester.
- Registered domain: when a request is submitted for an available domain, it is assigned to the requester. Registration can be made for 1 to 10 years.
- Active domain: the domain remains active during the registered years. During this period, it can be extended from two months prior to its expiration.
- Grace period: the domain has expired and stops functioning. This period lasts 44 days, and you may renew the domain without penalty.
- Redemption period: this period lasts 30 days. The domain has been deleted but can still be restored and renewed at a higher price.
- Pending delete: the domain cannot be restored and will be released.
Registering domains with special characters (IDN)
For .bz domains, registering with IDN special characters is not allowed.
