The .cl domain is the country-code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Chile.

Any person or entity can register a .cl domain.
Registering a .cl domain
Restrictions for registering .cl domains:
.cl domains may contain a maximum of 63 characters and a minimum of 3.
Accepted characters for domain registration are: a-z, 0-9 and hyphen “-”. The "-" cannot be placed at the beginning or the end of the name.
They can be registered for a period of 1 to 10 years.
They cannot be locked.

Since domains have an expiration date, they follow a lifecycle that goes through different phases. This lifecycle is established by ICANN, the entity in charge of domain regulations. In the following graphic we show you the lifecycle of a .cl domain and its states.
Available domain: the domain has not yet been registered, therefore it is free for registration. When a registration request is sent, it will be assigned to the first request received.
Registered domain: when a request is sent for a free domain, it is assigned to the person who requested it. When sending a registration request, it can be requested for 1 to 10 years.
Active domain: the domain will be active for the number of years requested at registration. During this period, it may be extended starting two months before expiration.
Redemption period: this period lasts 30 days, during which the domain has been deleted but can be restored and renewed at a higher price.
Pending delete period: the domain cannot be restored and will be released.
