Here you will find all the information regarding .de domains.
The .de domain refers to the country of Germany, and the Registry DENIC is responsible for its management. They are the first two letters of the country name in German, Deutschland. The .de extension is the most used worldwide only behind .com.
Why register a .de domain
It is the most suitable extension for those who have business or commercial relationships with Germany. DNS server update time for this extension is every two hours.
You should also take into account that .de domains allow an automatic ownership change from the cdmon control panel.

Restrictions for .de domain registrations
The administrative contact of the domain must have a contact address (address and phone number) in Germany. If you do not have an address in Germany, you can contract our local presence service for an additional cost (4€/year).
.de domains can have a maximum of 63 characters and a minimum of 3.
The domain must have an active DNS service at the time of registration. At nic.de you have a zone validator for DNS. If you do not have an active DNS service for the domain, you can use the DNS servers of cdmon. They can only be registered for one year.
Restrictions for .de domain renewals
Restrictions for .de domain transfers
Expired .de domains cannot be transferred to cdmon.
.de domains cannot be transferred if they are in clientTransferProhibited status.
When the domain is transferred, one year is added to the date on which the transfer is completed, not to the domain’s expiration date. If the domain was already renewed, that renewal would be lost.
Since domains have an expiration date, they have a lifecycle that goes through various phases or periods. This lifecycle is established by ICANN, the entity responsible for the regulations applicable to domains. In the following graphic we show you the lifecycle of a .DE domain and its states.
Available domain: the domain has not yet been registered; therefore, it is available for registration. When a registration request is submitted, it will be assigned to the first request received.
Registered domain: when a request is submitted for an available domain, it is assigned to the person who has requested it. When a registration request is sent, it is requested for a number of years, which can be 1 year.
Active domain: the domain will be active during the year for which it was registered. During this period, it can be renewed for one more year starting two months before the expiration date.
Redemption period: this period lasts 30 days, during which the domain has been deleted, but it can be restored and renewed at a higher price than the standard renewal rate.
Multilingual .de domains - IDN special characters Registration of .de domains with IDN special characters
It is possible to register .de domains with special characters from the following character sets: Latin, Greek and Cyrillic. For Spanish usage we will use the Latin set, which allows registration with the special characters ñ, á, é, í, ï, ó, ú and ü. When registering an IDN .de domain, it is not necessary to have the homonymous domain without special characters; they are independent. For example, someone could have lópez.de and someone else lopez.de — these are different domains.
How to register an IDN .de domain?
You must request the registration of the domain directly with the special character from the domain registration page. The system will indicate whether it is available and allow you to register it by following the steps.
Transfer of .de domains with IDN characters
You can transfer your .de domain registered with another provider from our domain transfer page. You must enter the .de domain name with the special character. The system will show you if it is transferable and guide you through the process.
