FAQs: .xxx domain registration

Question: What is a .xxx domain?
Answer:
It is a domain extension intended for the online adult content industry.

Q: How is a .xxx domain registered?
A:
You must request the domain registration directly from the domain registration page.

Q: What does it mean that the domain is active or inactive?
A: When registering a .xxx domain, you must select whether you want the domain to be active or inactive:

  • Active: The domain will resolve at the DNS level.

Select this option if you want to host a website with adult content. Activation is not immediate.

  • Inactive: The domain does not resolve at the DNS level. The domain will not be operational.

Select this option if you want to protect your brand. Visits to that domain will resolve to an ICM Registry website, indicating that it is not operational.

Q: How is a .xxx domain activated?
A: For a .xxx domain to be active (resolve at the DNS level), it is necessary to associate a unique identifier with it.
This identifier is obtained by registering as a member of the sponsored community.

You can request to become a member of the sector at ICM Registry and once registered you will obtain an identifier.

You must enter this identifier in the control panel of your domain at cdmon.

If you have requested an inactive .xxx domain and now wish to activate it, contact us.

Q: How do I register in the sponsored community?
A:
When requesting the registration of an active .xxx domain, the registrar entity ICM Registry sends an email to the domain owner to register in the sponsored community.

This message is sent only once per owner. If you have already been validated, you will not receive that notification again.

To complete the registration process, you must follow these steps:

  • In the received message, follow the link to access the ICM website to complete the community member validation process.

  • You must complete the registration/validation form. Remember to provide a valid phone number.

  • ICM will call the new member to validate the registration (remember to select the "Spanish" option on the registration form), and will provide the new member with a PIN number that you will need to complete the registration process on the website.

  • Once registration is complete, you can obtain a unique identifier from the ICM website that you will need for your .xxx domains associated with your owner email to become operational.

Remember that you must enter said identifier in your control panel, so that we can associate it with your .xxx domain.

You can find complete information about the validation process and an explanatory video on the ICMRegistry website.

Q: I don't remember my member ID. How can I recover it?
A: If you have not received the validation message from ICM Registry, or you do not remember your member ID, go to the Member log in section on the ICM Registry website. There is a link in case you forgot your password or wish to receive the validation email again.
