Life cycle
Since domains have an expiration date, they follow a life cycle consisting of several phases. This life cycle is established by ICANN, the entity that regulates domain policies. The following chart shows the life cycle of a .fm domain and its statuses.

  • Available domain: the domain has not been registered yet and is therefore available. When a registration request is submitted, it will be assigned to the first request received.
  • Registered domain: when a request is sent for a free domain, it is assigned to the person who requested it. The registration request is made for a number of years, which can be from 1 to 5 years.
  • Active domain: the domain will remain active for the number of years it was registered for. During this time, renewal can be extended starting from two months before its expiration date.
  • Grace period: the domain has expired and stops working. This period lasts 44 days, and you can renew the domain without penalty fees.
  • Redemption period: this period lasts 35 days. The domain has been deleted but can still be restored and renewed at a higher price than the standard renewal fee.
  • Pending delete: the domain can no longer be restored and will be released.
