How to add SOGo contacts to other email clients
SOGo allows you to synchronize your address book with other compatible email clients using the CardDAV protocol. This will let you view, edit, or add contacts directly from your preferred email client without needing to access the web interface.
In this guide, we explain step by step how to configure your SOGo contacts in several different environments:
- Mac Mail (macOS)
- Thunderbird
- iPhone (iOS)
Mac Mail (macOS)
- Open the "System Preferences" menu on your computer and select Internet Accounts.
- Click on Add Other Account…
- Select the CardDAV account option.
- Fill in the following information:
- Account Type: Manual
- Username: Your full email account name (for example: yourname@yourdomain.com)
- Password: your email account password
- Server Address: sogo.yourdomain.com/SOGo/dav/youraccount@yourdomain.com
- Remember to replace "yourdomain.com" and your account name with the details of the email address you are configuring.
- Click Sign In to complete the setup.
NOTE: The Mail app does not have a built-in contacts view. This means you cannot directly “see” contacts from Mail as if it were an address book. What Mail does is automatically use the contacts available (from all accounts configured in the Contacts app) when you start typing a recipient in the "To" or "CC" field.
Thunderbird
- Open Thunderbird and go to the Contacts icon.
- Click the menu button next to "New Contact" and select Add CardDAV Address Book.
- Enter your username (the email address you are configuring) and the full CardDAV URL:
- Username: The full email address (for example: test@exampledomain.com)
- Location: sogo.yourdomain.com/SOGo/dav/youraccount@yourdomain.com/Contacts/personal/
- Remember to replace your email account and domain in this "Location" URL.
- If a security warning appears, accept the exception to continue.
Now, when you access the same contacts list in Thunderbird, you should already be able to see the contacts created in this contact list and use them.
iPhone (iOS)
- Find the Contacts app from your iPhone "Settings".
- Tap Contacts Accounts.
- Select Add Account.
- Choose the Other option.
- Under the contacts section, select Add CardDAV Account.
- Enter the following information:
- Server: sogo.yourdomain.com
- Username: yourname@yourdomain.com
- Password: your account password
Remember to replace "yourdomain.com" and the username with your email account details.
- If the information is correct, the account will now appear as successfully configured.
- You can tap on it to access the "Advanced Settings".
- If needed, you can access Advanced Settings to check the account details:
- Here you can check whether "SSL" is enabled, modify the assigned port, and review the account URL. If for any reason the URL is not correct, it can be modified manually.
- The URL should be: sogo.yourdomain.com/SOGo/dav/youraccount@yourdomain.com
- Remember to replace "yourdomain.com" and the email address in this URL with your email account details.
