How to add SOGo contacts to other email clients

SOGo allows you to synchronize your address book with other compatible email clients using the CardDAV protocol. This allows you to view, edit, or add contacts directly from your usual client without having to access the web interface.

In this guide, we explain step by step how to configure your SOGo contacts in several different environments:
  1. Mac Mail (macOS)
  2. Thunderbird
  3. iPhone (iOS)

Mac Mail (macOS)
  1. Go to your computer's "System Preferences" menu and select Internet Accounts .


  1. Click on Add another account…


  1. Select the CardDAV Account option.


  1. Fill in the following information:
  1. Account Type: Manual
  2. Username: The full name of your email account (for example: yourname@yourdomain.com)
  3. Password: the one for your email account
  4. Server address: sogo.yourdomain.com/SOGo/dav/youraccount@yourdomain.com
  5. Remember to replace "yourdomain.com" and your account name with the email address you are setting up.


  1. Click Sign In to complete setup. 

NOTE:  The Mail app doesn't have a built-in contacts view. That is, you can't "view" contacts directly from Mail like you would an address book. Mail automatically uses available contacts (from all accounts set up in the Contacts app) when you start typing a recipient in the "To" or "CC" fields.

Thunderbird
  1. Open Thunderbird and go to the Contacts icon.


  1. Click the menu button next to "New Contact" and select Add CardDAV Address Book.


  1. Enter your username (the email address you are setting up) and the full CardDAV URL:
    1. Username: The full email address (for example: test@exampledomain.com)
    2. Location: sogo.yourdomain.com/SOGo/dav/youraccount@yourdomain.com/Contacts/personal/
    3. Remember to replace your email account and domain for this "Location"


  1. If a security warning appears, accept the exception to continue.


Now when you access the same contact list in Thunderbird, you should already see the contacts created in this contact list displayed so you can use them.

iPhone (iOS)
  1. Find the Contacts app in your iPhone's Settings.


  1. Tap on Contact Accounts.


  1. Select Add Account.


  1. Choose the Other option.


  1. In the contacts section, select Add CardDAV account.


  1. Enter the following information:
    1. Server: sogo.yourdomain.com
    2. Username: yourname@yourdomain.com
    3. Password: the one for your account
Remember to replace "yourdomain.com" and the username with your email account information.


  1. If the information is correct, the account will now appear as correctly configured.
  2. You can click on it to access the "Advanced Settings".


  1. If you need to, you can access Advanced Settings to check your account details:


  1. Here you can check if you have SSL enabled , modify the assigned port, and the account URL. If for any reason the URL isn't correct, you can change it manually.
  2. The URL must be: sogo.yourdomain.com/SOGo/dav/youraccount@yourdomain.com
  3. Remember to replace "yourdomain.com" and the email address in this URL with your email account information.
