To upload your website to your cdmon hosting account, you need an FTP client. An FTP client is special software that connects to the web server using the FTP communication protocol and allows you to manage your website as if it were Windows Explorer. There are countless FTP clients available on the market, but at cdmon we recommend WinSCP for its security and robustness.
Before continuing, you must download WinSCP from the following address:
On this website you will find different installation packages. Download the latest stable package (not beta) with multiple languages included.
During installation, choose the language and a shortcut will be created in the Start menu and on the desktop.
Launch the program:
Once WinSCP is open, a window will appear where you must enter the necessary details to establish the connection:
Protocol: FTP is the protocol you must always use to connect to your hosting.
Host name or server IP: the domain you want to connect to, or if you do not have the domain available, you can enter the IP address (or the domain with redirection mialias.net).
Port: the port must be 21.
Username: this field corresponds to the FTP user.
Password: the FTP user password, always respecting uppercase and lowercase letters. It is advisable to copy and paste the password (do not copy blank spaces, as they are considered characters). You can check the FTP connection details in the hosting Control Panel, under hosting management, in the Hosting information section.
Once you have entered the details correctly, click the Connect button.
After the connection to the hosting has been established, you will see a window similar to this:
On the left, there is a window showing the files located on your computer, where you can browse to find the files and/or directories you want to upload to the website. On the right, you will see a window showing the files and/or directories located in the hosting account, including the WEB folder, which is where you must place your website content, as it corresponds to the root of the site on the internet.
To upload files and/or directories to the server, simply select them and drag them to the desired directory.
You should take the following into account:
The main file in the web folder must be named "index". This file can have multiple extensions, but the most commonly used are "index.htm" and "index.html". This is necessary because the web server is configured to display the content of "index.html" by default, so when entering the domain name in a browser, nothing else needs to be added.
Inside the web folder, you can create additional folders, and each folder should contain its own "index.html" file. This is not mandatory, but it is highly recommended to maintain a well-organized file structure.
