General information

Any person or entity can register a .lt domain.

Registering a .lt domain
To register a .lt domain, you can visit our website. You also have a tutorial explaining the steps to register a domain.

Restrictions
 Restrictions when registering .lt domains:
  • .lt domains can have a maximum of 63 characters and a minimum of 2.
  • Accepted characters for registration are: a-z, Lithuanian special characters (ą, č, ę, ė, į, š, ų, ū, ž), 0-9 and hyphen "-". The "-" cannot be the first or last character and two or more hyphens cannot be consecutive.
  • The ownership change must be requested via ticket and has a cost because it includes one year of renewal.
  • Changing the domain owner resets the expiration date based on the date the change is made.

Restrictions when renewing .lt domains:
  • A .lt domain can be renewed for a maximum period of 1 year.
  • They cannot be renewed earlier than 37 days before expiration.

Restrictions when transferring .lt domains:
  • .lt domains cannot be transferred if they are expired.
  • .lt domains cannot be transferred if they are in the status cleintTransferProhibited.
  • To start the transfer of .lt domains, the AUTHCODE is required.

Lifecycle
Because they have an expiration date, domains go through a lifecycle consisting of several phases or periods. This lifecycle is established by ICANN, the entity responsible for the regulations applicable to domains. In the following graphic we show you the lifecycle of a .lt domain and its states.

  • Available domain: the domain has not yet been registered, therefore it is available. When a registration request is submitted, it will be assigned to the first request received.
  • Registered domain: when a request is submitted for an available domain, it is assigned to the person who requested it. When the registration request is submitted, it is requested for a number of years, which can be 1 year.
  • Active domain: the domain will remain active for the registration year. During this period, the number of years can be extended to avoid expiration starting two months before the expiration date.
  • Redemption period: this period lasts 30 days, during which the domain has been deleted but can be restored and renewed at a higher price than the standard renewal fee.
  • Pending delete: the domain cannot be restored and will be released.
