Restrictions
Restrictions for registering .pm domains:
  • .pm domains can have a maximum of 63 characters and a minimum of 2.
  • Any citizen with nationality from one of the EU Member States, regardless of their country of residence, can register a .pm domain.
  • Any company, corporation, or association domiciled within the countries that make up the European Union has the right to register a .pm domain.
  • The characters accepted for the registration of .pm domains are: a-z, special characters ( ß, à, á, â, ã, ä, å, æ, ç, è, é, ê, ë, ì, í, î, ï, ñ, ò, ó, ô, õ, ö, ù, ú, û, ü, ý, ÿ, œ ), 0-9, and hyphen "-". The hyphen cannot be the first or last character of the domain name and two or more consecutive hyphens are not allowed.

Restrictions for renewing .pm domains:
  • A .pm domain can be renewed at any time.
  • A .pm domain can be renewed for a maximum period of 1 year.

Restrictions for transferring .pm domains:
  • .pm domains cannot be transferred if they are expired.
  • To initiate the transfer of .pm domains, the AUTHCODE is required.
  • During the transfer, the domain contacts are modified, and the expiration date of the domain is reset from the date on which the registrar change becomes effective. Therefore, it is advisable to initiate the transfer when the domain is close to its expiration date.

Lifecycle
Since domains have an expiration date, they follow a lifecycle that goes through different phases or periods. This lifecycle is established by ICANN, the entity responsible for domain regulations. In the following graphic, we show the lifecycle of a .pm domain and its statuses.

  • Available domain: the domain has not yet been registered, therefore it is available. When a registration request is submitted, it will be assigned to the first request received.
  • Registered domain: when a request is submitted for an available domain, it is assigned to the requester. When submitting a registration request, it can be requested for 1 year.
  • Active domain: the domain will be active for the year of registration. During this period, the registration can be extended for one year, starting from 2 months before the expiration date.
  • Redemption period: this period lasts 30 days, during which the domain has been deleted but can be restored and renewed at a higher price than the usual renewal fee.
  • Pending delete: the domain cannot be restored and will be released.
