How to index a website using a sitemap file on Google

What is indexing? When you perform a search on Google, it displays the pages that are most relevant to that query. To determine which pages should appear in the search results, Google must interpret their content, classify it, and add it to its database; in other words, it indexes them.

Getting your content indexed means it will appear in search results, which is why it is important to index your website correctly so that it appears on Google, the world's largest search engine.

How to index a website in Google

Indexing in Google is managed through Google Search Console. You can access it using the following link. There are two ways to index content in Google: manually or using a sitemap file. In this guide, we will show you how to index a website using a sitemap file. If you prefer, you can refer to the guide How to manually index a website in Google

Indexing using a sitemap file

For more information about what a sitemap is and how to create one, we recommend reading the guide What is a sitemap and how to create one

A sitemap, as its name suggests, is a map of your website that provides information about the pages and content available on it. This file helps Googlebot index and understand the hierarchy of the different URLs on your website.

You must access Google Search Console to submit your sitemap for indexing.

Once you have accessed a domain that you own, go to Sitemaps.

Next, under Add a sitemap, you will be asked to enter the address of your sitemap. Here you should paste the URL of your website's sitemap. In our example, we use the domain bendiciones247.com.

After a few seconds, the sitemap will be submitted successfully and a confirmation window will appear:

Under Submitted Sitemaps, you will find a history of all submitted sitemaps, where you can see the last read date, the submission date, and the current status.
