How to turn WordPress maintenance mode on/off

WordPress Maintenance Mode is an essential tool for website administrators who need to perform updates or significant changes without affecting the user experience. Activating this feature allows you to display a notification page informing visitors about ongoing work, maintaining a professional image and minimizing potential security issues. Whether for updates, theme customization, or configuring new plugins, Maintenance Mode ensures your site remains accessible and secure, even during modifications.

Activate Maintenance Mode
WP Maintenance Plugin
For more advanced management of Maintenance Mode, we recommend using the WP Maintenance plugin. This plugin provides detailed customization of the maintenance page, allowing adjustments to colors, fonts, images, and even adding a countdown timer for the site relaunch.

Install and activate the WP Maintenance plugin from the WordPress administration area.

Access the plugin settings in the left sidebar, where you will find several sections to customize the page as you wish. When you activate the plugin, the panel will automatically redirect you to begin customizing the page.

Enable Maintenance Mode and configure the message your visitors will see. You can also adjust the design to match your brand identity.

From the cdmon Control Panel
If you prefer not to use WordPress or a plugin to activate Maintenance Mode, you can enable a parking page from our control panel. This is useful if you want to work on your site at a more technical level or if you are looking for a solution that does not depend on WordPress.

Access your domain control panel and look for the option to activate Maintenance Mode or a parking page. You can follow the instructions in this guide to complete the configuration:

Disable Maintenance Mode
Via FTP
In cases where Maintenance Mode does not automatically deactivate after an update, you can disable it manually. Simply access your site via FTP to edit a file.

Once connected via FTP, navigate to the /web folder and look for the file `.maintenance`. Once located, you can rename or delete it. This process is straightforward and requires no additional tools, ensuring that your website becomes available to your visitors immediately.

With these tools and practices, you can ensure a smooth transition and maintain your visitors' trust, even during maintenance periods.
