Due to the new Registrar Accreditation Agreement (RAA 2013) signed with the international domain regulatory body (ICANN), when making a new registration, a domain transfer, or a modification of data for an already registered domain, you must verify the owner's email.
Below are the most frequently asked questions that may arise regarding this topic.
Who is the owner of a domain? The owner of a domain, at cdmon, is the person or company stated in the "Owner" section at the time of registration and, therefore, is the owner of that domain.
What does the owner validation process consist of?
The owner validation process is carried out to verify that the email associated with a domain truly belongs to the owner. cdmon sends an email to the address provided by the owner with a link that you must click to validate the email account associated with the domain. You have 15 days to accept it. If you do not accept it within this period, the domain is suspended and stops working.
When must we validate the owner of a domain? You must validate the owner of a domain when you make a new registration, a transfer, or a change of contact information (name, surname, or email), and when the Whois data reminder message WDRP (Whois Data Reminder Policy) that we send from cdmon is returned. If you have validated previously and we detect that it is the same name and email address, i.e., the same owner, you should not need to validate again.
In which extensions must the owner be validated? Validation is required for all gTLDs. This also includes new gTLDs.
If the owner's email is incorrect, can we change it and request validation again? Yes, you can. At any time, you can change the email account associated with the domain and from the cdmon Control Panel itself, you can request that the verification email be resent.
You can find this option by accessing "Domain Management" in the information box at the top.
If we haven't received the owner validation message, can we resend it? If you haven't received the validation message, you can request a resend by accessing "Domain Management" and clicking on the "Resend verification email" link found in an information box at the top of the page.
We don't want cdmon to appear in the validation message or on the acceptance screen, is that possible, and what should we do? If you don't want cdmon to appear in the validation message, you need to configure white label for domains in the "Control Panel". To do this, go to the "User Management" section and click on Service Notifications.
In the "Service Notifications" panel, you can choose from four options. You must click on the White label option.
When accessing the "White label" page, you must click on the Activate white label option.
When you click on "Activate white label", you enter the configuration, where you can enter your company details.
When you enter the data in the form and click Save data, the following information message appears.
Once you have entered the data and accepted the information message, you will see the information as follows.
Now that you have the provider data, you can select those "Domain notifications" options that you want to be displayed with the white label.
In this last image, you can see that the current status of domain notifications now appears as Activated.
What does it mean when a domain is suspended or deactivated? When a domain is suspended or deactivated, its status is changed to ClientHold Status, which causes the domain name to stop resolving. It is exactly the same status the domain has when it expires and stops working. Once the email is validated, the ClientHold Status is removed.
How long does it take for the domain to become active again if I confirm the owner validation after it has been suspended? Once you validate the email, the ClientHold status is removed from the domain, and you only need to wait for the DNS to propagate. This process can take up to 24 hours.
Do we also need to validate other domains registered previously? You only need to validate other domains already registered with cdmon if you make any type of modification to the contact information (name, surname, or email) or if the Whois data reminder message WDRP has been returned.
How many messages will we receive during the owner validation process? Currently, cdmon sends the following messages to the owner of the affected gTLD domain:
One message at the time you make a new registration, a transfer, or a modification of contact data.
A reminder after 10 days. At that time, a notice is also sent to the cdmon user to contact the owner.
An inactive domain notice after 15 days.
In any case, you can always request that the email be resent to the owner from your "Control Panel".
If a domain is suspended for not validating the owner in time, can it be renewed? Being suspended does not mean it cannot be renewed. You can manage the domain normally from the "Control Panel", but it will not resolve until you validate the email.
