What to do with a domain

You have just taken the first step and now you have your own domain name on the Internet.

The next step would be to give your domain some functionality by creating your own website or using email addresses under your domain name. For this step, it is important to choose a hosting plan that suits your needs.

However, if you are not planning to purchase a web hosting service yet, you should know that you have several features included with your domain and others available online that allow you to enjoy different value-added services at no cost.

Below, we list some of the services you can enjoy for free with your domain:
  • Microplan. If you do not have hosting associated with your domain, you can activate the Microplan. It is free hosting that can be activated with every domain you register. The Microplan offers 50MB of web space, 1GB of monthly transfer, and one email account with 100MB of storage.
  • Web redirection. From your cdmon control panel, you can redirect your domain to any website you want. For example, if you have a free blog on WordPress (myblog.wordpress.com), you can make visitors who enter your domain name be automatically redirected to your free blog. It’s a way to enjoy a website under your own domain name.
  • Parking page. If you don’t have a free website to redirect your visitors to, you can create a simple text-based page from your cdmon control panel using standard templates. With it, you can announce that the domain is yours and that it is under construction or for sale (for example).
  • Forwarded email addresses. With your domain registered in cdmon, you can create as many forwarded email addresses as you need, under your domain name. These are email addresses that forward messages to a target account. For example, if you have a free account (yourname@gmail.com), you can create a forwarded account (yourname@yourdomain.com) that sends messages to your Gmail account. Your customers will be able to write to your personalized email under your domain name, and you will receive the messages in Gmail. It’s a way to enjoy personalized email under your own domain name.
  • Google Apps with your domain (email, shared documents, calendar, etc.).

But remember, when you want to enjoy a professional Internet presence by hosting your own website or using email addresses under your domain name, you will need to take the next step and purchase web hosting.
