Cache is a feature used by PrestaShop to temporarily store data and resources, which significantly improves the loading speed of your online store. However, as you make changes to the site, such as modifying the design, products, or categories, it may be necessary to reset the cache to ensure that the changes are correctly reflected on your store’s frontend.
Steps to reset PrestaShop cache from the Administrator/Back Office
Below are the steps required to reset the cache in PrestaShop:
Log in to your PrestaShop administration panel using your username and password.
In the side menu, scroll down until you find the section "Advanced Parameters" and click on it. Inside the "Advanced Parameters" section, you will see several options. Click on "Performance" to access the cache settings:
In the "Performance" tab, look for the option called "Smarty". Make sure the option "Clear cache every time something has been modified" is enabled.
In the same tab, at the top, you will find the option "Clear cache". Click the button to delete all stored cache files.
Once you have cleared the cache, go back to the "Smarty" option and enable the checkbox again to activate Smarty cache.
Finally, scroll down and click the "Save" button to save the changes made to the cache configuration.
It is important to note that after resetting the cache, you may experience a brief slowdown in your store’s loading time, as PrestaShop needs to rebuild the cache. However, after this process, the changes made will be properly reflected.
Keep in mind that the process of resetting the cache may vary depending on the version of PrestaShop you are using.
Steps to reset PrestaShop cache manually
If you do not have access to the application's back office or if you prefer to reset it from the website files, you can also manually clear the PrestaShop cache.
Next, access your PrestaShop installation directory (usually located in the /web folder) and delete the contents of the following folders:
exampledomain.com/web/var/cache
exampledomain.com/web/cache/smarty
IMPORTANT: Delete all files and folders inside these directories except for the index.php file.
LiteSpeedCache
In the side menu, scroll down under "Configure" until you find the section "Advanced Parameters" and click on it. If you have the "LiteSpeed Cache" module activated and configured, click on "LiteSpeed Cache" to access its settings.
Once inside the LiteSpeed Cache settings, look for and click on the "Manage" tab. From there, at the top, click on "Flush All PrestaShop Pages" to completely clear the LiteSpeed cache.
If you do not want to delete the cache for the entire PrestaShop installation, in the same "Manage" tab you can select which PrestaShop pages you want to purge. Click on the pages you want to purge and then click on "Purge by Selection".
