How to update WordPress, Plugins and Themes

 
 
Keeping WordPress up to date, along with its plugins and themes, is crucial to ensure the security, stability, and performance of your website. Update WordPress
Before proceeding with the update, remember that at cdmon we perform daily backups, which can be restored from our control panel. This includes both site files and the database, allowing you to restore your site if anything goes wrong.
 
  1. The first step is to log in to your WordPress admin panel.


  1. If an update is available, you will see a notification at the top. Click Please update now or access the Updates section.


  1. The dashboard will display the new WordPress version available for update.


  1. If your current version is old, you may need to update the database once the process is complete.


  1. WordPress will start the update and display a progress screen. Once completed, it will redirect you to the welcome page of the updated version.

WordPress automatic updates
  1. In the Updates section of your WordPress dashboard, check whether automatic updates are disabled.
  2. If they are, WordPress will offer the option to enable them.
Important: This option only applies to the WordPress core, not to plugins or themes.
Update Plugins
  1. From the WordPress Dashboard, go to Plugins > Installed Plugins.


  1. If updates are available, you will see a notification next to the plugin.
    • You can update them individually by clicking Update now, or select multiple plugins and use Bulk actions.


  1. If processed correctly, WordPress will display a confirmation message.



Automatic plugin updates
  1. You can enable automatic updates for each plugin from the right-hand side of the plugin list.


Update Themes
  1. From the WordPress Dashboard, go to Appearance > Themes.


  1. If updates are available, you will see a notification on the theme.
  2. Click the theme and then Update now.
