FAQs: Domain registration

FAQs: Domain registration

Question: What is a domain?
Answer:
A domain is a name on the Internet. For example, you are on the domain cdmon.com.

Q: What types of domains can I register?
A:
At cdmon, currently, you can register more than 600 types of domains, such as .com, .es, .com.es, .nom.es, .org.es, .net, .org, .cat, .eu, .info, .mobi, .tel, .biz, .us, .name, .tv.

Q: What is the difference between all these types of domains?
A:
The difference is the non-standardized use of these domains. .es designates websites from Spain, .com should be used for commercial pages, .net for general theme pages, .org for non-governmental organizations, .biz for businesses (from "business"), .info for pages offering general information, .name for names, .tv for televisions.

Q: What is a TLD?
A:
It stands for Top Level Domain and refers to first-level domains, i.e., .com, .net, .org, .info, etc.

Q: What is a ccTLD?
A:
It stands for Country Code Top Level Domain and refers to territorial domains, such as .es, .com.ar, .br, .in, .pw, etc.

Q: What syntax rules must I follow to register my domain?
A:
The use of letters (a-z) and numbers (0-9) is allowed, and they must have a minimum length of 3 characters and a maximum of 64. Some domain extensions may include accented letters, diaeresis, special characters, punctuation marks, etc.

Q: Can I register a domain name with accents or other types of characters?
A:
Yes, at cdmon, you are allowed to register multilingual domains, with accents, special characters, etc. The domain extensions that allow the use of these characters are .es, .cat, .eu, .com, .net, .org, .info, .de and .ch.

Q: Why are the minimum characters three? Can't I register a two-letter domain?

Q: How do I know if the domain I want to register is available?
A:
To find out if a domain is available and to register it, simply enter it into our search engine and we will tell you which domains with that name are available.

Q: How many days until my domain becomes available?
A:
To know the days, you need to know the domain's lifecycle. When a domain expires, we see that there is a grace period, a redemption period, and a release period. After these periods, the domain will be released and can be registered again.

Q: If I register a domain with you, who owns that domain?
A:
All domains registered with cdmon.com belong to the registrant, i.e., you.

Q: Why do other extensions appear when I do a search if I didn't ask for them?
A:
When you perform a search, you are informed about other TLD domains that are available, simply to keep you informed and save you time by avoiding further searches.

Q: What are the registration fees for more than one year?
A:
You can check our prices on our website.

Q: With VAT?
A:
All prices at cdmon DO NOT include VAT.

Q: I am a new user, what should I do?
A:
You can register for free or sign up when you make a new purchase of domains or web hosting. You will only need to provide us with a username and a contact email.

Q: What is the difference between the domain owner's data, the administrative contact, and the billing contact?
A:
These are data in case your company needs to enter different people as responsible for the domain. The most important data is the administrative contact's email, because you receive all domain management emails there. If you are an individual, you can enter the same data without any problem.

Q: Can I use the same data?
A:
Yes, you can use the same data by checking the corresponding box you will find when registering your domain.

Q: Do I have to provide my real data during registration?
A:
Yes, it is an essential condition to associate correct and valid information with your domain contacts. According to the terms of the domain registration contract, providing false information may lead, in the worst case, to the cancellation of the domain registration.

Q: Can I change the domain registration data?
A:
Yes, once you have purchased the domain, you can make any changes you want from the control panel, in real time and free of charge, except for .es, .fr, .it, .pt, .pl, .com.ar and .cl domains. The change of ownership of a .es domain is requested by sending documentation to nic.es. For .fr, .it, .pt, .pl, .com.ar and .cl extensions, this service is not currently available; we are working to be able to offer it.

Q: What payment methods do you offer?
A:
You can pay by Visa or MasterCard, by bank deposit or transfer, or with PayPal. If you want to get cheaper prices when registering your domains, you can activate payment with Balance (volume discount).

Q: Will I receive an invoice?
A:
cdmon is a brand of the company 10dencehispahard SL, and issues official invoices for all orders it receives. At the time an order is processed, you receive a confirmation email and the invoice as an attached document. In the control panel, you can view and print all your invoices related to your purchases at cdmon.

Q: Is your payment system secure?
A:
The virtual payment system by TPV 4B is absolutely secure, as it has a 128-bit security certificate and is carried out through their servers, the TPV servers.

Q: Once my domain is registered, what do I do to make it work?
A:
Once you have purchased the domain, you need to "bring it to life". This is done by configuring the DNS for that domain. From the control panel, you can use the free DNS manager to point the domain wherever you want. More information about the DNS manager.

Q: Who is the registry of .cat domains?
Answer:
The registry is Fundació puntCAT. It is the manager of the .cat domain. Its website is Puntcat.cat and Domini.cat.

Q: Do .cat domains have any restrictions?
A:
The .cat domain is defined as a sponsored gTLD. When .cat is defined as sponsored, it means it is restricted and intended for specific user groups, not for all Internet users. Specifically, for a .cat, a significant part of the content must be in Catalan. This means you can have a page in any other language, and also in Catalan. You can also use .cat only for email, and you must specify this in the intended use when registering the domain. The .cat registration agreement details the full conditions.

Q: Which specific user groups is .cat intended for?
A:
What the agreement between Fundació puntCAT and ICANN states, in part, is the following:

"The .cat TLD (Top Level Domain) is established to meet the needs of the Catalan linguistic and cultural community on the Internet (hereinafter, 'the Community').

The Community is made up of all those who use Catalan in their online communications, and/or promote various aspects of Catalan culture online, and/or wish to direct their online communications to this Community.

Q: Can I have my website in multiple languages and use a .cat?
A:
You can use a .cat if the page has several languages and one of them is Catalan. You could have the .cat domain point to another domain, such as .com, or you could also have .cat as the main domain.

Q: Where can I find more information about .cat domains?
R:
On the Fundació puntCAT's FAQ page.

Q: Who is the registry of .es domains?

Q: Are there restrictions on registering .es domains?
.es domains can have a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 10 years of life.

Q: Can I have email forwarding with the domain? What should I do?
A:
Yes. Among the services included in domain registration is the ability to enjoy unlimited forwarded email addresses.

If you want to set them up, you must access the control panel, in the static DNS manager section. You have a user manual in our help on setting up email addresses in static DNS.

Q: Can I redirect the domain to a web address?
A:
Yes. You have a tutorial that explains how to redirect your domain to a web address in the help on our website.

Q: Can I have a parking page with the domain?
A:
Yes. You have a tutorial that explains how to enjoy a parking page with your domain in the help on our website.

Q: How can I manage the domain's DNS?
A:
You can manage the domain's DNS (if you have assigned cdmon's DNS) by accessing them from the "Registered domains" section, clicking the "Manage" button associated with the domain, and then "Manage DNS redirects".

Q: If I register a domain, can I upload a website?
A:
With a domain registration, you have access to the parking page service, or you can redirect the website to an IP or URL, but you do not have web space to host your pages.

Q: What services are included with domain registration?
A:
Domain registration includes, among others, the following free services:

  • Full DNS management
  • Web redirection for URL
  • Parking page
  • Unlimited forwarded email accounts
  • Private whois
  • Contact management
  • Intuitive control panel
  • MicroPlà hosting

You can find complete information about the services included with domain registration on our website.

Q: If I register a domain and make a mistake, can I cancel it and change it for another one?
A:
Yes. If you register a domain and you made a mistake in the name, cdmon offers you the possibility to register the domain again, with the same extension, for free.

The process to follow is as follows:

  • Within the first 5 calendar days from registration, send a message to comercial@cdmon.com with your username and control panel password, indicating that you made a mistake in the name of the registered domain.
  • We will send you a promotional code so that you can purchase the correct domain for free, and we will proceed to cancel the erroneous domain.

Remember that you have 5 calendar days to notify us. After this period, it is not possible to cancel the domain registration.

cdmon offers this service for free and exclusively for our customers, assuming the cost of the erroneous registration, only in the case of an accidental error by the customer.
Our Commercial Department will analyze each particular case to decide whether or not it is possible to offer the promotional code.

Q: Do you plan to expand the domain extensions you offer?
R:
cdmon continuously works to incorporate new extensions for its customers. All new features are immediately added to our website, so we recommend that you regularly visit our website to check if our domain search engine includes new extensions.

Q: Can I register domains that have registered trademarks if those domains are available?
A:
Most extensions have no restrictions regarding who can register a domain, as long as it is available. If it is a registered trademark, keep in mind that the company that owns the trademark has the right to request the registered name. In this situation, you could become involved in an arbitration process where it is very likely that you will be forced to return the domain to the owning company.

Q: If I buy a domain, is activation immediate?
A:
It all depends on the payment method. If the payment method is direct (card, PayPal, or Balance), activation is immediate because the order is processed automatically.

However, if you pay by transfer, the order remains pending until the bank transfer is received, normally within a period of about 48 hours. During this period, there is a risk that someone else will register the requested domain. For this reason, we always recommend that domain registration be paid for using a direct payment method (card, PayPal, or Balance).

Q: If I register a domain and it expires, can I register it the next day with another provider? No. Domain lifecycle on our website.

Q: Can domains be reserved?
A:
No. Domains can be registered by anyone as long as they are available, and they cannot be reserved.

Domain registration is based on the "First come, first served" method, so we always recommend that our customers choose an immediate payment method when registering a domain, so that no one else beats them to it.

Q: What can I do with my domain registered at cdmon?
A:
Once you have registered the domain with cdmon, the next step is to assign a hosting service to complement it (websites, email, etc.). You can find information about our hosting services on our website.

If you haven't yet decided to use your domain, you have a package of free services that you can use until you decide to get more complete hosting:

  • Web redirection. You can redirect the domain to any website you want.
  • Email forwards. You can set up unlimited forwarded email addresses under the domain name.
  • Domain parking. You can create a simple landing page if you don't want to redirect your domain to another web address.
  • Full DNS management of the domain.

And everything manageable from a simple control panel.

Q: Can I register a domain with cdmon and hosting with another company?

Q: Do I need to contract a hosting plan when registering a domain?
A:
No, it is not necessary. It all depends on whether you need to use your domain (website, email accounts, etc.) or not. You can register the domain to reserve it for later use.

With the free services we offer with your domain, you can redirect it to another website, create a simple parking page, or use forwarded email accounts to send incoming email to other accounts.

Q: Why are there companies with cheaper prices than yours?
A:
You may find companies on the market that offer very low domain registration prices. This is a customer acquisition method, attracting customers in the hope that, once acquired, they will continue to contract other services or products.

Our philosophy is not to offer the lowest price on the market, but a product that offers the best value for money.
If you contract cdmon products, you will discover that we not only offer competitive prices, but also a wide range of included services and customer care and support that is highly valued by our customers.

Q: Can I get cheaper prices?
A:
You can get better prices on domain registration, renewal, and transfer if you use the volume discount service, where, depending on the invoiced volume, you get special discounts.
