Starting a web project is not the easiest thing in the world. If this is the first time you want to create a website, you may be unfamiliar with many of the terms used and the requirements a website needs in order to work.
In this guide, we will explain as simply as possible what each service is and what you need in order to have your own website.
First steps at cdmon
The first thing you need to know is what a domain is and why you need it: A domain is an easy-to-remember name associated with the physical IP address of a server. In other words, it is the readable name associated with a server’s IP so that when you want to access that server, you do not need to use the IP address, but instead access it via the domain name (exampledomain.com).
It is important to know that you need a domain for your website to work publicly and for people to be able to access it. In short, it is the name you want to give your website and the one visitors will use to access it publicly.
If you want to have email accounts with a specific name (example@exampledomain.com), you will need to register the corresponding domain in order to create accounts using that @.
IMPORTANT: Domain names are unique. Therefore, if you try to register a domain that is already active, it will appear as already registered. If you only want that specific domain, you will need to wait until it expires and becomes available again, or register the domain using a different extension (.com | .es | .cat | .org).
Once you are clear that you need a domain for your website to be visible and functional, the next thing to consider is the hosting associated with that domain.
To begin with, what is hosting? Hosting is an online hosting service that allows you to publish a website or web application on the Internet. When you purchase hosting, you are essentially renting space on a server that stores all the files and data of your website so it can function properly.
Hosting is a portion of server space reserved for the domain associated with that hosting. In this way, the domain has allocated space on that server to develop the entire project.
In short, the domain is the name assigned to the website, and the hosting is the “server” where all the website’s content is stored (web files, databases, email accounts, etc.).
At cdmon, we offer several types of hosting plans. The plan you choose depends on the website or project you want to develop. You can view the features of each one on our official page.

If you want to have a larger website or need more than one hosting plan, it is recommended to hire a Virtual or Dedicated Server depending on your website’s needs. The following links explain what each service is and the steps to follow to purchase them:
Most of our hosting plans include a free Let’s Encrypt certificate. However, at cdmon we also offer several Premium SSL security certificates for web hosting. Depending on your project, it may be advisable to consider purchasing one of them. Below is a link showing the steps to request a Premium SSL from the control panel.
