Domains always have an assigned expiration date. Once this date is reached, the domain will expire and will no longer be operational. This condition is the same for all domains, regardless of the extension. We recommend renewing your domain before it expires. You can renew for several years so you don’t have to extend it year by year.

Grace period, redemption period and domain release
Once the domain has expired, if it is not renewed, it will go through several phases depending on the extension. You can distinguish three phases:
  • Grace period: period during which the domain can be renewed at the usual renewal price.
  • Redemption period: period prior to the deletion of the domain. The renewal cost is higher because it requires domain restoration.
  • Pending delete period: it is not possible to renew the domain during this period.
The number of days these periods last depends on the domain extension. You can find this information in the domain lifecycle charts. We can also highlight:
  • .es domains only have a grace period and then become available immediately.
  • .eu domains do not have a grace period and after expiring they move directly to the redemption period (called Quarantine). However, in this case the renewal price during redemption is the same as the regular .eu renewal price.
