The basics of domains

Your domain is your identity in Internet. With one or more domains and an active hosting and email service you can be visited by any user any time of the day.
Domains are made up by a name and an extension. These are separated by a dot. Thus, if you take cdmon.com for example, cdmon would be the name and com the extension.

The name also goes by SLD and the extension by TLD Depending on the type of information contained by the website, you could choose an extension over another.
  • Generic domains (gTLD): these are the best known extensions. They don’t have restrictions. You can register anyone you find available with complete autonomy.
    • Domains .com and .net
    • Domains .info
    • Domains .org
    • Domains .biz
    • Domains .name
    • Domains .asia
